Engr. Anthony Paul Essien
St. Paul Comprehensive Secondary School, located in Ikot Ekpene, Nigeria, was founded by Engineer Anthony Paul Essien, whose “big dream” for the institution was conceived in September 1990 upon his return to Nigeria. This vision was inspired by his own educational journey, which began in missionary schools in Nigeria and continued in Italy, England, and Germany. Essien’s core mission was to establish a school that would remain affordable for petty traders while providing high-value, quality education of international standards. The school began modestly, with only a few classroom blocks, teachers, and students. However, fueled by his passion and enriched by experiences from both Nigeria and abroad, the school grew rapidly. To further strengthen the institution and uphold its commitment to excellence, Essien formed a “young, dynamic, and efficient Board of Directors” to inject “new, fresh, and innovative blood” into the school. This strategic move, coupled with a steadfast dedication to delivering world-class education accessible to a broad demographic, has led to the school being recognized—by its founder and others—as one of the best secondary schools in Nigeria.
